The subtitle for this book is 'A Desktop Quick Reference.' That is right on the money for this volume. Webmaster in a Nutshell has a detailed breakdown of everything you need as a webmaster, from Apache configuration notes to HTML tag options to what's the named entity value of a small thorn, þ. Everything you need is here.
The chapters each take a web technology and detail the technology in great detail. The first eight chapters delve into HTML. All options every tag is explained. I appreciated having Forms, tables, and forms each receiving its own chapter. The review and references for CSS and JavaScript are very useful. The next five chapters delve into web programming, starting with an overview of CGI and SSI ending with a detailed reference to mod_perl and PHP. The final four chapters are reserved for web server technology, giving HTTP and Apache 2.0 the same complete coverage. The chapter on Apache Modules details Main and extension modules and the differences between version 1.3 and 2.0. The final chapter is great lesson on website performance tuning.
I'm going to keep this review short because I can say this is a great book only so many ways. At US$34.95, this book is well worth its price. If you work in the web, get this book. If you are starting a career in the web industry, get this book.
